Muhurthakaal fixed

Muhurthakaal was fixed on 21/12/2009 at the auspicious time of  6:30 A.M, under the vedic guidance of our grama vadhyar, Sri Anantharayana Vadhyar  and the presence of our samooham members. This marks the official beginning of the forth coming functions of Maharudram, Thiruvathirai and Sasthapreethi in the gramam.

Vaikathashtami 2009

Vaikathashtami was celebrated in the gramam  with the procession of the idols in the Goratham, on 09/12/09.

Veda Vaara Japam ~2009

Vaaram started from 5th Dec ends on 10th Dec. As like previous years, this year too, the students of the Veda Patasala run by the Veda Rakshana Samithi, at Ramanathapuram, does the veda parayanam in the evening at Ayyappan Kovil. This time, the vaara sadya was conducted on the 5th and 6th  (Sat/Sun) with the active participation by the gramam members. Here are few snapshots.

VADAKKANTHARA GRAMA BRAHMANA SAMOOHAM

Vadakkanthara Grama Brahmana Samooham was registered under societies act XXI/1860 SL.NO.236-1994. There is a total of 294 members in the samooham.

Activities of the samooham

• Management of Gowri Sankara Kalayana Mandapam
• Extending help in conducting all Temple related and religious functions in the village
• Working for the welfare of the society members

VADAKKANTHARA GRAMA UTHSAVA COMMITTEE

Vadakkanthara Grama Uthsava Committe was formed in 2006 following the success of Kumbhabhishekam. The idea was to conduct various festivals more efficiently with support from Devaswom trustees and grama samooham.

Uriyadi ~2009

Uriyadi was well celebrated on 10th Oct,2009, as in previous years, with active participation from the members of the gramam. After the unjavarithi, the Vilakku for Lord Venkatachalapathi was offered. The morning programmes culminated with the Sadhya.

Evening, the preparations for the Uriyadi began. Kids were enthusiastic to collect turmeric from houses, amidst huge cries of "Uriyadiaakkum, Manjapodi Venam".

Programme Notice Released

02/10/2009

The programme notice of Maharudram, Thriuvathirai and Sasthapreethi is released after the customary pooja at Sivan Kovil.

The first notice was given to Sri. Ramachandra Iyer (Grama President) by Sri. Venkatrama Iyer and Sri. Ramanathan at former's house, in the presence of the committee members.

VADAKKANTHARA GRAMAM

Vadakkanthara gramam is one of the main agraharams in the district of Palakkad with around 90 houses. It is located very near to Palakkad town (4kms from town). The gramam consists of three streets namely, Double Street,






Single Street




and Ayyappankovil street.




The temples of  Sri Thiruvenkattappan (lord Siva)



 and Sri Dharmasastha (Lord Ayyappa)



are the grama devas.
There is a Nagar Pradishta adjacent to the big pond of the gramam.


Gramam has a kalyana mandapam - Gowri Sankara - in its premises, which is managed by the Grama Brahmana Samooham.

Navarathri - Vazhavettal Photos ~ 2009

Navarathri was celebrated in our gramam with bhajanai in the night, followed by prasadom ditribution(Paanakam and chundals) on all 10 days. Sivan kovil was illuminated for the occassion.

Bomma golus were kept in various homes. The 10 days festivities came to a close with the vazhavettal function.
